About the game
Word Search is a classic puzzle where a grid of letters contains hidden words. A word list tells you which words to find. Words can be placed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — and in some puzzles, backwards. Click or drag across the letters to highlight a found word.
One of the most popular paper puzzles in the world, Word Search is a relaxing yet mentally engaging game. Studies show that word searches improve pattern recognition and vocabulary retention. This digital version generates fresh puzzles on every play.
How to play
- Look at the word list. You need to find every word hidden in the grid.
- Words can run horizontally (left-to-right or right-to-left), vertically (top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top), or diagonally.
- Click and drag across the letters of a found word. It highlights to confirm.
- Find all words on the list to complete the puzzle.

Five beginner tips
1. Scan by letter, not by word
Look for the first letter of a word, not the whole word. It is much faster to spot an isolated "Q" than to scan for "QUICK".
2. Check diagonals early
Most people miss diagonal words. After checking rows and columns, scan all four diagonal directions.
3. Mark found words
Crossing off words on the list reduces visual clutter and lets you focus on what remains.
4. Work from the edges
Words along the grid edges are easier to spot because they have fewer directions to check.
5. Take breaks
After a few minutes, your eyes stop seeing patterns. Step away for 30 seconds and come back — you will spot the remaining words instantly.
Why you'll like it
Word Search is the perfect low-pressure puzzle. No timer, no score, no penalty — just you and the grid. It works as a five-minute brain break or a thirty-minute deep focus session.
