Color Flood

Category: Puzzle⏱ ~5 minDesktop + touch
Tip: look for the largest colour cluster on the board — switching to that colour gives you the biggest expansion.

About the game

Color Flood (also known as Flood-It) is a puzzle where you start from the top-left corner and try to flood the entire board with a single colour. On each move, you pick one of the available colours, and the entire connected region of your current colour expands to absorb adjacent tiles of the chosen colour.

The game starts simple — a few colour changes and you might win. But as the board grows and more colours are added, strategic planning becomes essential. The optimal strategy is rarely obvious, and beating your personal best requires genuine problem-solving.

How to play

  1. You start at the top-left corner. Your current "flooded" region is highlighted.
  2. Pick a colour from the buttons. Your region expands to absorb all adjacent tiles of that colour.
  3. Repeat until the entire board is one colour. Your score is the number of moves you used.
  4. Fewer moves = better score. Try to find the most efficient path.

Five beginner tips

1. Think in clusters

Look for the largest colour cluster on the board. Switching to that colour gives you the biggest expansion per move.

2. Don't chase small patches

Isolated single tiles are traps. They waste a move and rarely help you reach the other side.

3. Work the edges

The edges of the board are the hardest to reach. Plan your colour sequence to sweep along the edges.

4. Count colours

If only two colours remain, you can always win in two moves. Focus on reducing to that state.

5. The last five moves matter most

Early moves are about expansion. The last five are about precision. Slow down and plan.

Why you'll like it

Color Flood is a puzzle that rewards observation and planning over reflexes. Each game takes under five minutes, and the "just one more try" urge is real — especially when you are three moves away from your personal best.
